Summer Sailstice

Summer Sailstice
Summer Sailstice - June 22, 2013

Although I am a powerboater at heart, I don’t think there is a boater among us who doesn’t feel a stir in the soul at the site of a sailboat in full tilt, at peace with nature’s original propulsion system.
Recently I was made aware of Summer Sailstice, the "global sailing holiday celebrated on the weekend closest to the summer solstice."  Apparently, this international event is quite the shindig, with over 19,000 sailors in 47 countries worldwide celebrating their nautical craft.  There are contests, prize drawings, digital opportunities to interact, and lots of good ol’ fashioned social connectivity among like-minded people.
What I found cool was Summer Sailstice's backing company, the first boater-to-boater™ charter marketplace where you can rent boats from fellow sailors:
CRUZIN is America's first fully-insured peer-to-peer boat rental and charter marketplace. Boat owners can now turn their boats into sources of income, renting out their boats to pre-screened, qualified renters, knowing that their boat is covered by $1,000,000 in insurance from the world's largest marine insurer during the time that their vessel is being operated by a Cruzin.com renter.  Boaters all across America can now rent carefully selected boats from fellow boaters, enjoying the peace of mind that they are protected by $1,000,000 in insurance coverage and the towing services of BoatUS.
And, of course, there’s a great partnership in place with both Sailors for the Sea and Ocean Conservancy in order to raise "awareness of human impacts on the fragile marine environment and wildlife."  Love it.
