GEM Advertising recently put out a fantastic video featuring Google Glass and its client North Pacific Yachts. In it, the captain of the NP38' Pilothouse dons his Glass, activates the software, and does everything from reviewing his daily engine checks to streaming navigational info to his wearable device.
Given that vessel systems are moving towards central electrical busses that communicate between all systems in one easy-to-maintain network, integrating wearable tech like Google Glass would allow a captain instant access to every system on the boat, without having to travel back to the helm. Just imagine - you could set your autopilot, stream your navigation to your Glass, and go make a sandwich while monitoring your course. Cool!
In the coming years, we're sure to see great advancements between both Google and innovative manufacturers like North Pacific Yachts. That will certainly be an exciting time to be a boater.
